COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMMES:

In 2008, ATS and its parent organization, International Christian Ministries, formed Community Outreach Program. The desire to establish this department was prompted by the Land/Clan clashes of Mt. Elgon District in 2006—2007 which saw over one thousand killed, and tenth of thousands displaced. ATS Mt. Elgon Campus in Kopsiro was not spared and it too fell a victim resulting in its closure for over one year during the peak of the conflict in 2007.
This Community Outreach has seen ICM/ATS serve the immediate community in Rift Valley, Nyanza, and Western Provinces in the following ways:

  • Relief Projects: Through partnership with Overseas Council ATS formed the Mt. Elgon Compassionate Care Project that has offered: Relief Foods; Home Reconstruction materials for widows; High School scholarships for orphans; and Trauma Counseling for all those affected by the Mt. Elgon Clashes.
  • Mosquito Nets: Through ICM’s Women Ministry, ATS donates and distributes Mosquito Nets to needy families in rural villages and poor urban neighborhoods. So far this project has benefitted women in Western, Nyanza, and Rift Valley Provinces.
  • Reconciliation & Trauma Counseling Seminars: Through partnership with Elgon Pastors Forum (EPF) and Oxfam GB (Kenya), ATS has offered Reconciliation Seminars with Council of Elders, key Community Leaders, and key Church leaders for the affected clans and groups in Mt. Elgon region. In addition, numerous Trauma Counseling workshops have been held to assist the victims affected by the Mt. Elgon clashes.
  • Consultancy Services: Through its Counseling Department, ATS offers consultancy services to Corporations or Organizations for the training and counseling of its employees. Some of the recent services provided include, conducting baseline survey for Kenya Seed Company towards determination of the Extent of Drug and Alcohol Abuse in 2009.
